Example: When you request access to protected resources, Enterprise Authentication prompts you to
verify your identity using these factors:
• Something you know — User name and password that Enterprise Authentication verifies against an
identity data store
• Something you have — Software token synchronized with Enterprise Authentication that generates
time-sensitive one-time passwords
When you accurately provide the prompted information, Enterprise Authentication communicates your
validated identity to the protected resource, and access is permitted.
Certificate-based authentication
Certificates replace user names and passwords with trusted electronic documents that process and
validate authentication requests between you and protected resources.
Each certificate includes public and private keys, also knows as key pairs, issued by trusted third-party
certificate authorities (CAs). Key pairs include the following information:
• Unique serial number
• Your identity information, such as name, telephone number, and email address
• Certificate expiration date
• Digital signature of the CA that issued the certificate
Successful certificate-based authentication between you and the protected resource only occurs when
the associated key pair data is verified as current and authentic.
Example: When you request access to protected resources, Enterprise Authentication uses these
certificate-based factors to verify your identity:
• Something you have — Private key
• Something you know — Password that protects the private key
Your Enterprise Authentication administrator distributes and manages all certificates.
Web-based interface
To access your Enterprise Authentication settings, use the web-based Web Manager interface.
Access to the Web Manager features are based on your administrator-configured Enterprise
Authentication account permissions.
Depending on your configuration, you can access these settings with Web Manager:
• Contact information
• Security questions
• Password reset
• Token enrollment
If you need access to additional Web Manager features, contact your administrator.
